Head of Games

OVERVIEW

We are seeking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Head of Sport to join a supportive, caring, and professional team. They will be responsible for planning and delivering PE and games lessons throughout the school with the support of additional staff.

This position could suit a qualified teacher or someone with coaching qualifications.

Hours, Salary & Benefits:

Hours: This is a full-time or 0.8 position.

Salary: Competitive salary available dependent on experience and qualifications

Job Description:

Teaching:

  • To plan, prepare, and deliver PE and Games lessons
  • To ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is excellent
  • To have high expectations of all pupils
  • To maintain good discipline and expect excellent behaviour in line with school policy
  • To monitor pupils’ progress and contribute to individual pupil reports
  • To be familiar with and implement all appropriate health and safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment in all lessons and activities
  • To complete risk assessments as necessary
  • To be aware of the pastoral and medical needs of all pupils within the school
  • To organise Sports Days for EYFS, Lower Prep and Upper Prep
  • To maintain records of pupil participation in any school sporting activities
  • Be proactive in seeking a wide range of sporting opportunities and experiences for pupils
  • To keep up to date with any current initiatives relating to the teaching of PE and Games
  • To run sports clubs, fixtures and activities and to assist with other before and after school clubs as required
  • Arrange a programme of sporting fixtures both home and away
  • Assist in preparing pupils for sports scholarships and awards, completing the necessary reference forms
  • Escort pupils to and from events and activities where appropriate
  • Coordinate the writing of match reports for the school website, newsletters and social media

General

  • To cover when required for absent colleagues or work alongside other teachers
  • To teach such lessons, subjects and activities as required by the school’s primary curriculum
  • To communicate with parents and/or carers as appropriate
  • To attend Parents Evenings
  • To attend whole school Staff Meetings and additional meetings as required
  • To attend staff Inset training days
  • To carry out supervisory duties at break and lunchtime
  • To lead assemblies
  • To attend overnight residential trips as required
  • To attend the main school functions such as open days, plays/concerts, carol service, and prize giving
  • Any other duties deemed reasonable by the Head Teacher
